Ligue 1 market values: Lille’s Botman upgraded by €15m - Draxler at lowest point since 2013
Transfermarkt.fr has updated the market values of 193 Ligue 1 players. Among the biggest winners of the interim update are Lucas Paquetá and Jason Denayer of league leaders Olympique Lyon and Sven Botman and Yusuf Yazici of LOSC Lille. The latter is now worth just as much as PSG midfielder Julian Draxler following his devaluation – after all, the squad value of the French titleholders is still rising, however.
By far the biggest increase was earned by Lille centre-back Botman, who arrived for €8 million from Ajax last summer. Ronan Caroff, area manager Transfermarkt FR, explains the jump in market value from €10 million to €25 million:
"He has adapted quickly to Ligue 1 and is one of the main reasons for Lille’s strong first half of the season. To date he has been on the pitch every possible minute and, alongside veteran José Fonte, he has been able to take his game to the next level. Heavyweights like Liverpool have them on their radar already, but Lille reportedly turned down an offer of €25 million.” Botman now ranks among the world’s five most valuable centre-backs aged 20 or younger.
A new career-high has also been secured by Yazici, who is becoming one of Europe’s most prolific midfielders. The Turk has been involved in a goal around every 60 minutes in Ligue 1 and the Europa League this season and receives an upgrade from €13 million to €20 million. Yazici plays in attacking midfield, as centre-forward, a second striker and also remained on the bench for several matches.
Whenever head coach Christophe Galtier needs him, he is on hand and caused a stir, however, especially internationally, with two hat-tricks against Sparta Prague and AC Milan.
Despite losses for Draxler, Kehrer & Di María: PSG’s squad value rises
Things are are not going this well for PSG midfielder Draxler, who has now reached his lowest market value since 2013 after a €4 million devaluation: €20 million. France expert Caroff on the downgrade: “Zero minutes in the Champions League, a serious thigh injury in the fall, and a role as a bench player – Draxler is not having an easy time at the moment. In current form, there is much to suggest that interested clubs are waiting to sign him on a free transfer in the summer rather than paying a fee in January.”
Draxler is not the only notable PSG player with an expiring contract. In addition to Juan Bernat, whose market value remains at €16 million, Ángel Di María is also among them. For the 32-year-old Argentinian, a – mainly age-related – minus of €4 million to €28 million is due this time. Despite further devaluations for Thilo Kehrer (-€3 million to €25 million) and Idrissa Gueye (-€6 million to €18 million), the squad value of the French titleholders increases by €14 million to €870 million overall.
This is due to homegrown players such as Kays Ruiz-Atil (+€2 million to €3 million) and Timothée Pembélé (+€3.5 million to €4 million), Mitchel Bakker (+€6.5 million to €10 million), who arrived from Ajax in 2019, as well as Rafinha (+€5.5 million to €15 million) and Everton loanee Moise Kean (+€5 million to €30 million).
Lyon: Kadewere rises by €5.5 million - Biggest drop for Dembélé
In the Ligue 1 table Lyon are currently three points ahead of PSG – in the market value ranking, OL are around €520 million behind, however. The big market value winner at the leaders, who have not qualified for European competitions this season, is centre-forward Tino Kadewere (+€5.5 million to €12 million), who joined from Ligue 2 side AC Le Havre, alongside centre-back Denayer (+€4 million to €20 million) and former Milan player Paquetá (+€5 million to €25 million).
“Kadewere was among the players we revalued rather conservatively in the last update. Now, half of the season is over and he hasn’t slowed down one bit. The 25-year-old has held his ground against Depay, Dembélé and Toko Ekambi in his first Ligue 1 season,” Caroff said. While things are going well for late bloomer Kadewere, former Celtic striker Moussa Dembélé’s first half of the season can be described as mediocre. One goal in 16 Ligue 1 appearances does not do justice to a forward with a market value of €40 million – consequently, Dembélé is the biggest loser of the update. His new market value: €30 million.
